It was the messy end of the greatest band of all time. George Harrison looked around him and realised he was deeply unhappy and the problem was the two men in the room with him who clearly could no longer work toegether and had little interest in hearing his ideas, creatively or otherwise. He said afterwards: "It never came to blows, but I thought, 'What’s the point of this? I’m quite capable of being relatively happy on my own and I’m not able to be happy in this situation. I’m getting out of here.'"

On January 10, 1969, Harrison walked out of the explosive recording session for the album Let It Be. On top of the difficulties within the band, the process was being recorded for a 1970 documentary of the same name.

He said: "Ringo had left at one point. I know John wanted out. It was a very, very difficult, stressful time, and being filmed having a row as well was terrible. I got up and I thought, 'I’m not doing this any more. I’m out of here.'

John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, in prison since 1980 when he murdered the former Beatle, has tried and failed once more to gain parole.

Here is what’s known about the assassin’s attempts to gain release from prison.

In 2012, the Texas-born Chapman appeared before the parole board to once again request release from maximum security Wende Correctional Facility in Erie County, NY. The convicted killer is being held there after serving 31 years in Attica Correctional Facility. During his hearing at that time, the shooter offered his remorse for his actions in 1980.

“Absolutely it was not worth it,” The Denver Post reported him as saying. “Absolutely ridiculously selfish act to take another human’s life so that I could be pumped into, you know, something that I wasn’t to begin with. I deeply regret it.”

The Beatles have been known to change lives over the course of their music’s existence. Decades after the band was formed, John Lennon and Paul McCartney‘s music is still finding its way into new fans’ ears, with incredible results – lifelong fans.

Over the course of the band’s existence they worked hard to create new, nuanced music.

However on August 28, 1968, the band were in Rishikesh, India, where they were meditating with a number of their famous friends.

But things quickly turned sour when Mia Farrow’s sister had a bad experience.

Farrow’s sister – named Prudence – had an “attack of the hours, paranoia”.

According to McCartney at the time, he explained: “Prudence Farrow got an attack of the horrors, paranoia, what you’d call these days an identity crisis, and wouldn’t come out.”

If you ever wondered who took the clean-cut members of the Beatles and turned them into soul searching songwriters capable of penning wildly psychedelic tunes like “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “Within You Without You”, look no further than Bob Dylan. For it was on this day in 1964–so the story goes–when Dylan introduced John, Paul, George, and Ringo to the glories of smoking the ‘ol jazz cabbage.

Following their sold-out show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NYC on August 28th, Dylan arrived to meet the Beatles at the Delmonico Hotel across the river in Manhattan where the popular folk singer wasted no time in almost immediately pulling out a joint to smoke with the mop-topped foursome. While the band relayed stories to Dylan of trying cannabis once a few years prior in 1960, they said it hadn’t worked. Dylan clearly had the goods–as rock stars typically do–and the Beatles would go on to get ridiculously high on that fateful evening in New York City.

Sir Ringo Starr was often in the background of the Beatles, and was therefore a little mysterious to fans. However, as the years went on, he was thrust into the public eye more and more, as was his personal life. He is happily married to his second wife Barbara Bach – but what happened to his first wife Maureen?

Sir Ringo’s first wife was Maureen Starkey, to whom he was married between 1965 and 1975.

Sir Ringo encountered Maureen, then 15, when she regularly went to The Cavern Club in Liverpool, where she met the drummer, who she called “Ritchie.”

According to Hunter Davis’ Beatles Life, Maureen was once scratched in the face by a Beatles fan rival, showing how the band was starting to get more famous by the time these two got together.

Why Did the Beatles Really Break Up? 26 August, 2020 - 0 Comments

You just never get over some break-ups, and for fans across generations, the Beatles’ split in 1970 will always be one of the hardest-to-heal musical wounds. In the latest episode of Rolling Stone Music Now, Rob Sheffield — author of Rolling Stone’s September 2020 cover story on the Beatles’ last days — joins Brittany Spanos and host Brian Hiatt to talk about the many interlocking factors that led Paul, John, George, and Ringo to call it quits (no, you can’t just blame it all on Yoko Ono). Sheffield also previews Peter Jackson’s in-the-works Beatles documentary, which the Lord of the Rings director is assembling from the extensive footage shot for 1970’s Let It Be film. Plus, Ringo Starr chimes in with his impressions of what he’s seen so far of Jackson’s project: dramatically enhanced and restored footage of the Beatles rooftop performance.
