The Beatles - consisting of members of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr - were catapulting into mainstream success with screaming girls at their door.
The iconic foursome are still recognised as being the biggest band the world had ever seen - despite having ended over 50 years ago.
Millions of fans around the world were left heartbroken when the band went their separate ways back in April 1970.
Paul - who recently celebrated his 80th birthday - was the member to deliver the jaw-dropping news as he launched his first solo album.
Speculations around their split have circulated throughout the years - especially of arguments and splits between the band.
Fans initially blamed John's wife, Yoko Ono, and Paul's wife, Linda, but it seems problems for The Beatles started years before their break-up - when the death of their manager, Brian Epstein, left a hole at the helm of the band.

George Harrison and his wife Olivia were married for over two decades. They shared a son and weathered both celebrity and tragedy together. The couple remained together until Harrison’s death in 2001, and Olivia looks back fondly on their time together. As with any couple, though, they had some ups and downs. According to Bob Dylan’s former tour manager, Olivia became very upset with the former Beatle at Dylan’s 30th anniversary concert.When Harrison met Olivia, she was working at A&M Records, which distributed Dark Horse Records, Harrison’s label. They began dating and learned that their upbringing and values were similar. Olivia was outside of the world of fame that Harrison had been in since he was a teenager.

PAUL MCCARTNEY and The Beatles' producer, George Martin, grew frustrated with George Harrison during the recording of one of his songs from Revolver. Eventually, the Hey Jude singer stepped in to play a solo the Quiet Beatle was struggling with. And he "wasn't very happy" about it.
In the mid-1960s The Beatles were releasing albums thick and fast. By 1966 the band were already on their seventh studio album, Revolver. Although it included such iconic and memorable songs as Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine and Good Day Sunshine, the band decided to give the opening track to George Harrison.
But it wasn't a perfect process. Eventually, Paul McCartney - who is playing Glastonbury Festival today - had to step in.

Billie Eilish has expressed shock and excitement over her headlining spot at this year’s Glastonbury festival – particularly over the fact that she was billed alongside Sir Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar.
Eilish closed out the Pyramid Stage on the first night of the festival yesterday (June 24), performing 21 songs in a set that NME’s Thomas Smith said “felt like proof that the future is here”. Before the performance, she spoke to NME for this week’s Big Read cover story (which is also being printed in a special edition run of 1,000 copies), declaring that she feels “so honoured to be a part of” the festival.

Paul McCartney has revealed a surprise gig at a small Somerset music venue, the night before his Glastonbury headline set.
The 80-year-old former member of The Beatles’ performance was announced on Thursday (23 June), with “first come first served” tickets selling out in under an hour.
The Cheese and Grain entertainment venue in Frome, Somerset will play host to McCartney from 5pm on Friday (24 June). The venue’s capacity is just 800 people.
On their website, it said: “In 24 hours time from now Paul McCartney will be performing live, here in Frome, at the Cheese and Grain.
“What an incredible opportunity to watch Paul warm up for his Glastonbury headlining performance this weekend.”

According to George Harrison, The Beatles kept each other’s egos in check. George once said that he felt bad for Elvis because he was the only person who knew what it was like to be The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. However, the Fab Four didn’t have that issue. They had each other’s backs and depended on one another to get through, even if that meant they had to tell each other they were getting too big-headed.

Even the most successful stars, though, have bumpy rides throughout their careers, and sometimes, tragically, all that attention can have deadly results.
On December 8, 1980, the world of music (and beyond) was devastated by the sudden and violent death of the Beatles icon John Lennon, per the BBC. Lennon, reportedly, was returning to his Manhattan apartment with wife Yoko Ono that night, when assailant Mark Chapman shot him from behind. Lennon was shot four times, dying soon afterwards at St. Luke's Medical Center.

A never-broadcast interview with John Lennon, recorded by a Hull art student in 1964, is to be auctioned.
On the tape, Lennon tells 18-year-old John Hill he does not think The Beatles are “very good musicians” and admitted he got a friend to sit his art exam because the group were touring.
Mr Hill, who was studying at Hull Art College, recorded the reel-to-reel interview before a Beatles gig.
He found the tape in 2014 after it spent 50 years in a drawer.
Graham Paddison, of David Duggleby Auctioneers in Scarborough who are selling the lot, said that Mr Hill “bluffed” his way into the room where the Beatles were talking to the press.

George Harrison co-founded HandMade Films in 1978 with his business manager, Denis O’Brien, to help his Monty Python friends make Life of Brian. However, neither George nor O’Brien imagined that they’d make a film that scored two Hollywood A-Listers, Madonna and her then-husband Sean Penn.
Shanghai Surprise was not HandMade Films’ best movie, though. Quite the opposite. George said getting a good performance out of an often pissed-off Penn was hard.
In a 1988 interview, Film Comment asked George why he and HandMade Films agreed to make Shanghai Surprise. The film had a $15 million budget and a “temperamental, high-profile husband-and-wife team.”

Way back in 1969, The Beatles released a brilliant song called 'Something'. The song was featured on their 'Abbey Road' album and written by George Harrison about his wife Patti.
Now, more than 50 years after the release of the song, The Beatles' official Instagram account have shared a rare promo for the song, featuring the band with their wives.
According to the post, the video has only been shown once before in the UK, on Top of The Pops, when it was in black and white. The video was filmed in four different locations for each of the couples.
